Aunt Bonnie’s Poppy Seed Bread

My Aunt Bonnie might be the strongest and kindest person in the entire world. That’s not a combination you see too often, but she wears it extremely well. I always picture her laughing so hard she has to wipe the tears from her eyes. Her laugh lights up the room. My whole life she’s made me feel special and seen.

My first year of college, far away from the comforts of home and feeling utterly alone in the world, I walked into the campus post office one afternoon to find she’d sent me a care package containing this treat. In one bite it reminded me there was somewhere in this world I belonged, and somebody who loved me enough to bake me poppyseed bread.
